In the late 1800's and early 1900's, a manufacturer of wood flooring in the North, promoted their product by announcing that a person who was familiar with using a brush, saw, hammer and varnish could install them, and another person with average intelligence could maintain it. This publicity begins the promotion of the first mass-produced hardwood floors in America.

Now, after 100 years of development, hardwood flooring manufacturers have completely modernized their manufacturing techniques and quality offering a variety of finishes, appearances, colors and designs.

While stain add significant variability, different finishes can represent the modern or classic, rustic or simple. For example, a honey-colored wood has a more subtle and elegant appeal, while a floor with walnut finish has a cozy and warm appearance.
